Hi Jani, thanks for your question. I'm assuming you've been advised to have a liquid diet after bariatric surgery? If so, then I would go for liquids that are easy to digest and are also soothing for your gut, e.g. bone broth, which is both nutritious and healing. There are lots of recipes online for this or you can buy ready made bone broth from some online organic farm shops. You could also try some non-dairy milks like coconut milk, hemp milk or unsweetened almond milk, as dairy milk can be hard to digest. Protein shakes should be consumed but I would go for homemade if you can as shop bought ones tend to contain lots of added ingredients such as flavourings and preservatives. So try using a non-dairy milk as a base and then adding a good quality protein powder. There are some protein powders that also contain added vitamins and minerals, which would be beneficial. You should be consuming between 0.75g and 1g of protein per kg of weight a day. I would avoid liquids that are going to impact your blood sugar such as fruit juices and caffeinated drinks and also avoid nutritionally empty liquids such as sweetened and fizzy drinks. I hope this helps.
