Which is better, olive oil or coconut oil?

Both olive oil and coconut oil are great choices for cooking, but which one is better?

Both olive oil and coconut oil are of vegetable origin, but coconut oil contains saturated fats, while olive oil contains mostly unsaturated fats. However this does not mean that one fat is better than the other.

Let's talk a little more in depth about the fats contained in coconut oil because olive oil is already well known and talked about.

As I have previously mentioned, coconut oil contains saturated fats. These fats are natural, they are not manipulated, this means that they are not trans or hydrogenated fats. They have surprising benefits for your health. These fats provide your body with energy and are also good for your heart. On top of this they have the property of not oxidizing at high temperatures when used for cooking. For this reason it is great to use while cooking because it cooks your food, while maintaining all of its health benefits.

These findings do not mean that you have to substitute one oil for the other, but rather use both in moderation, coconut oil while cooking for example and olive oil as a dressing for your salad bowl.

But do remember and be aware of the great health benefits that coconut oil brings. Not only has it anti-cancer properties but it raises our good cholesterol (HDL) and helps to convert bad cholesterol(LDL) into good cholesterol, promoting heart health and lowering your risk of heart disease. It is also great for dental health, gut health and your immune system.  An important tip is to ensure that the type of coconut oil you buy is extra virgin, cold pressed and organic.
