What you should know about caffeine!

The crown jewel of our daily activities. For most, caffeine is more than present in our day to day, be it in coffee, coca cola, tea.

Several products contain this stimulant. However, the intake of this stimulant has always been subject to criticism and its consumption has been considered to have negative effects on our health.

It seems that things have changed recently. Current scientific knowledge has proven and recognised that caffeine can be safely consumed, but always in moderation, like everything else. A moderate intake of 300mg per day is perfectly acceptable for a healthy individual. Let’s take a look at the good and bad aspects of caffeine:

Positives: Caffeine is a stimulant that decreases fatigue and boosts energy. It increases our mental processing capacity, stimulates the stomach to secrete acid and has a marked diuretic effect. So, drinking coffee before a meeting can trigger alertness or before a workout, can  improve endurance.

Negatives: If you suffer from anxiety and stress, too much caffeine can increase your blood pressure and heart rate. Also, it can alter your dreams if you take it before you sleep, so be sure not to take a cup too close to bedtime.

We recommend limiting caffeine intake to a maximum of 300mg a day to avoid adverse effects. Want to know how much caffeine is in our usual beverages? Well, there are between 75 and 80mg in a cup of tea, a single espresso or redbull,(careful with redbull, because the sugar content is super high!). One cup of green tea or chocolate has about 30 or 45mg, but to top it all off, some caffeine capsules, a cappuccino and an americano contain between 130 and 160 mg of caffeine. That’s a whole lot of caffeine!
