Tic-toc: 4 tips for simple, healthy eating on the go

Are you a busy bee, always on the run, with little time to prepare food and cook throughout the day? Do you hate the thought of having to cook after a working day?

Although our modern lifestyle might be rushed and we are left wishing we had more time, it is vital that we eat a balanced and healthy diet, take in the right amount of nutrients and exercise regularly to perform 100%. Today we give you the keys to eating healthy on a busy schedule.

Here are four tips to eat well and make quick meals on days when we have no time, or laziness takes over. Yes, it is possible to eat healthy, without spending hours in the kitchen!

  1. Salad: Always have salad items in the fridge. Pre-washed, chopped and ready to go mixed lettuce, rocket and pre-prepared salad bowls are widely available and need no prior preparation. Personalize these ready made salads with some cherry tomatoes, tuna, shredded carrot, you decide!
  2. Pasta or rice: As you know, having a bundle of pasta or a bag of rice in your pantry is basic advice. Both are practical foods, with a long shelf life and very economical. In addition, you can use them to create a variety of dishes like bolognese or curry. They take little time to cook and remember wholegrain pasta or brown rice are better as they contain more fiber and release energy slowly into the bloodstream, keeping you fuller for longer.
  3. Canned foods: It’s never a bad idea to have some canned fish, peppers and legumes. They can be opened and eaten as they are, perfect when on the move and with no time to cook. Remember to check the labels, because some canned foods may contain high amounts of sugar.
  4. Fruit: Last but not least, fruit is an important part of our diet. It gives us numerous vitamins and minerals to keep us healthy and fit. Make fruity skewers to have with some raw cacao as a snack or prepare a little fruit bowl that you can easily take away.

Whatever your lifestyle and no matter how busy you are, it is definitely possible to opt for the healthier choice. Eating healthy does not have to be difficult and time consuming! Try it for yourself! ;)
