Superflavour? 3 seasonal foods to enjoy

Eating seasonal foods is a healthy, affordable decision that benefits your health. If you eat these foods out of season, they are more expensive and have less flavour.

Take advantage of seasonal produce to prepare balanced, delicious dishes. Introducing 3 ways to eat 3 seasonal foods.

  • Chard: high in fibre, iron and folic acid, associated with anaemia, but low in vitamin C, which means it should be eaten with lemon or raw peppers. High in vitamin A, which is good for people with eye problems. Contains iodine, although the amount depends on where it is grown. In addition to all of these things, it is refreshing, diuretic, has laxative properties and promotes proper digestion.

Idea for incorporating chard into your diet: chard and chicken meatballs. Chard leaves, ground chicken, garlic, egg yolk and flour

  • Pineapple: good source of water, vitamin C to promote collagen formation, encourages iron absorption. Contains iodine, which helps ensure proper thyroid function, and potassium, which is important for nerve synapses. Plus, it has fibre and helps you digest proteins.

Pineapple isn't just for dessert: have your main dish with a salad with pineapple, cucumber and mint.

  • Beetroot: good source of carbohydrates and fibre, as well as B vitamins, which are associated with proper immune function and good skin, as well as minerals like iodine, sodium and potassium.

A different idea to add beetroot to your diet: Beetroot and asparagus pie.

We've given you our healthy ideas for these three seasonal items. Now it's time for you to try new dishes and enjoy them.
