Is a beer good for hydration?

With the summer and lazy days by the beach, is it a good idea to turn to beer for hydration?

We are in the middle of summer, when temperatures are high, depending on what part of the world you are in. It is essential to keep well hydrated while holidaying and traveling abroad.

What do most people crave on a hot summer day? An ice cold beer. Today we will talk to you about the reality of this beverage and advise you to choose a healthier alternative.

Beers and other alcoholic beverages provide empty calories and although they contain water, the reality is that they dehydrate us. If you drink about 200 ml of beer, you will urinate about 320 ml of water, so you lose a lot of water weight. This is as a result of the alcohol content in the beer, even if it is merely 5%. We don’t recommend beer for hydration. It does not replace water lost after we sweat under the sun. It also damages our reflexes and slows down our muscles.

Non alcoholic beer is also not recommended because it contains a high carbohydrate content. So turn to fresh juices, smoothies and ice cold water with added lemon and lime to keep yourself refreshed.

Another wonderful option, full of electrolytes like potassium and sodium is coconut water, with 250 ml alone containing approximately  250mg of sodium and 600mg of potassium, with as little as 46 calories. This natural source of hydration is well equipped with minerals to replace the salts and water we lose through sweat.
