Stop Anemia

Stop Anemia

Do you feel weak, tired, pale? Maybe the heat is covering up anaemia, which can have more or less the same symptoms.

Anaemia can have several causes, and today we're going to talk about anaemia due to iron deficiency. In certain situations in life, such as pregnancy and childhood, demand for blood increases and so does the need for iron in our diet.

This can be detected using blood analyses and treated mainly by taking iron supplements recommended by your doctor for several months to return to proper iron levels.

But what foods can you get iron from? You have to remember that not all iron found in foods is bioavailable, meaning its chemical structure isn't absorbed with the same efficacy.

  • The iron our body assimilates best is found in animal products: red meat, egg yolks and poultry.
  • Grains, legumes, nuts and seeds: this iron is assimilated better when eaten with vitamin C, which is found in citrus, peppers, parsley, berries, etc.
  • Green leafy vegetables: more difficult to absorb than the previous group, but this can be improved by including food high in vitamin C, like strawberries, papaya and pineapple.

The most important thing is to detect whether the fatigue or weakness is associated with an iron deficiency and see a doctor and nutritionist to treat it properly.
