When the supermarket is full, we stop and stall a lot more, make unnecessary purchases and the wait in line is much longer. The crowds, together with the long wait in line can be overwhelming. We want a relaxing experience and to only take what is necessary!
• Do shopping lists work? For sure! We recommend that you make one right before leaving the house with everything that you need. Also, don’t go to the supermarket hungry. This is a big no no. Research shows that consumers overspend when they are hungry.
• Take advantage of offers and discounts on non-perishable products. Rice, pasta, herbs and spices for example, can all be bought in advance, then all you have to buy on your next visit is the fresh fruit and veg, fresh meat and poultry and bread. Keep in mind that frozen veg is just as healthy, so stack up on frozen veggies and berries and save yourself some time.
• Eyes wide open! Often more money is spent, because we are inattentive. If you want to spend less money, look at the highest and lowest shelves and do a price comparison. Don’t grab the first thing you see! Often more expensive products are at eye level.
• Try to buy less packaged foods, why? Because you are paying for the packaging as well. Also, less packaging, means less waste, so think that you are also helping the environment!
